Welcome to the Western Baths Club
Please refer to the floor plan to assist with an understanding of the building lay out. Floor Plan
Situated on Cranworth Street in Glasgow’s West End, The Western Baths is a historic building which continues to provide services for health and wellbeing for its members and visitors, and retains historical gym apparatus in the pool, which is still used to this day, one of only three pools we are aware of in the UK which retains such features:
The facility houses a full range of wet and dry facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and exercise room. It also has areas which would be regarded as for relaxation such as saunas, steam rooms and tepidarium.
There is a bar and bistro area and we also offer services such as sports massage, beauty therapy, hairdressing and a creche.
The building itself compromises three/four levels and is situated between Cresswell Street and Vinicombe Street. It sits directly behind the Hillhead Library, and next door to the Hillhead Book Club Bar and Restaurant.
Below is a list of transport access options to the club which we hope you will find helpful.
If arriving by:
Bus: Various buses stop at either Botanic Gardens on Great Western Road or outside Hillhead Library on Byres Road either of which are a two minute walk away.
Train: Nearest station is Partick (15-20 minute walk) or take Subway to Hillhead.
Subway: Hillhead (2 minutes), Kelvinbridge (15 minutes), Partick (20 minutes) walk away.
Car: There are Pay and Display bays on the East and South sides of the building.
Check meters for restrictions. Do NOT park on any bays which are marked RESIDENTS ONLY.
Nearest Disabled Parking bays are located on Observatory Road.
Blue Badge holders may park without charge on any pay and display parking bays.
Taxi: Drop off available at front entrance. (our reception team can assist you in ordering a taxi)
Cycle: Cycle racks are available outside the main entrance.
From a navigation perspective the postcode G12 8BZ should be used.
Entrance to the club is via two steps through the main reception doors.
Unfortunately, the building, due to its historic nature, is not wheelchair or buggy user friendly. From the main reception the same level houses the sauna suite. The sportshall, situated at the Cresswell Street end of the building, has direct ramp access, however, this is contained to the sportshall only.
From reception users must descend stairs to get to all the other areas, including the bar and bistro.
Staff are on hand to assist all members and visitors through out the club. Please do not be afraid to ask for assistance. The reception in the main entrance is manned almost all the time.
We currently (End 2017/2018) have a group evaluating how to make our building more accessible to all. If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to contact the club via this website, in person, or by phone.
I do hope you enjoy looking at our website and I hope, if you have never been to The Western Baths before, it encourages you to come and visit us.
