The last 24 hours has seen a marked increase in the steps being taken by Government to mitigate the impact of Covid-19, alongside the closure of businesses and buildings. In addition, the general public are being asked to stay at home as much as possible, avoid public transport and stay away from restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas and gyms.

In the light of these developments, the Management Committee has reviewed the need to protect our most vulnerable members and staff and reluctantly made the decision to close the Baths at 7pm on Friday 20th March until 9am on Monday 20th April. Although we are not a high-density club, a number of our members and staff are at greater risk either due to underlying medical conditions, or due to their age. In addition, several casual staff are returning home following the closure of universities in the city.

Some of our older and family members have already decided to reduce their use of the Club and this morning, schools advised that they would no longer be using the Baths owing to the increased risk of infection. Until Friday evening, we will be taking further action based upon the advice available and reduced staffing levels:
> Newspapers and magazines have been withdrawn.
> Swimming lessons and classes are suspended.
> Guest sign-ins are suspended.
> Staff will spray and wipe all areas, equipment and furniture every half hour.
This, of course, could change and we will keep you up to date with further developments as they occur.

As we cannot allow any member access to the Baths during this time, should any member wish to clear or retrieve items from their lockers we would ask that they please do so before we close on Friday.

I would urge you to support each other during this difficult time and hope that members will choose to continue their membership to enable us to support all our staff.

Best wishes,
Caroline Thompson
