We are delighted to announce that The Western Baths is now open to our members.

WBC FAQs

With our Club now re-open, the health and well-being of members and team members is our number one priority. We have introduced new procedures to keep everyone safe, well and active.

We’re aiming to offer the most complete experience possible, so whether you’re a badminton or tennis player desperate to get back on court, a keen swimmer who’s missed the water, or a gym lover tired of exercising in the living room, we’re sure to have something for you.

And of course, we are incorporating extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices throughout the Baths to keep you safe. All Government and local guidelines will be followed.

 

Pool – The pool will be open, with a maximum number of swimmers to ensure you feel safe and comfortable in the water. To book a slot for the pool please click on the Booking a swim, a gym session or a class page on our website.

Changing rooms – If you come for a swim, you will be assigned a changing cubicle and corresponding shower. The showers will be poolside or in the TRB Suite. You are welcome to use soaps, shampoos and shower gels. All other changing rooms and showers remain closed for the time being in accordance with Government restrictions.

Hair Drying – We are pleased to be able to offer limited hair drying spaces in our Hair Drying room adjacent to the Sports Hall. You will be asked to keep your face covering on while hair dryers are in use. We ask that you sanitise the hairdryer once you finish using it. Due to social distancing and cleaning requirements, there may be a small wait to use this facility.

Fitness Classes – Once we are in tier 2, we will be running our best-loved classes with reduced class sizes, including favourites such as Yoga, Pilates, Zumba Gold etc.  You can find out more here.

Tennis and badminton courts – Court 3 in the sports hall will be available all week for short tennis or badminton bookings.  Court 2 will be used to accommodate some of our fitness classes and will be available for short tennis or badminton bookings out with class times.

Gym – The Gym is open to members, with a maximum number of attendees per session.  Access to the Gym and Sports Hall will be downstairs from the main entrance and through the locker room. With reduced capacity, social distancing measures such as increased spacing between all equipment, new sanitisation stations and constant cleaning, our gym will provide the space you need to work safely.  Showers will also be available in the downstairs changing rooms of the WM Mann Building. Due to social distancing, we can not guarantee a changing space for everyone so members should arrive ready to train as much as possible.

The Deepend Bar and outdoor dining area will be open for you to relax or socialise with up to six members from two different households. You can find out more here.

What happens if members do not observe the Covid-19 and Baths’ rules?

We are asking members to show consideration and patience for their fellow members and staff as we re-open.  However, if members are unwilling to observe the rules they will be asked to leave, and in the case of ‘repeat offending’ may have their membership suspended.  We hope that this will not prove necessary.

Gym

Do I have to book a slot to use the gym?

Yes, pre-booking a slot in the gym is necessary. This can be done either online or via the telephone.  Gym capacity will be managed by our friendly staff and PTs.

How will I be able to social distance in the gym?

We have set maximum occupancy limits for our gym based on its size.  The Gym area is clearly marked for members to ensure you can work out with all the space you need while keeping a safe distance from others. A minimal number of cardio equipment have been taken out of commission to accommodate social distancing.

We’re leaving a 2m space between our equipment where possible, to ensure there is adequate space between members whilst they work out.

We have also introduced clear signage around the gym to help members to socially distance and our staff will always be on hand to help.

How is equipment being kept clean?

We’ve increased our cleaning schedules and have at least one staff member on the gym floor. We’re carrying out all of our cleaning with a fully viricidal disinfectant cleaner, certified to kill enveloped viruses within 60 seconds.

Disinfectant, disposable towels and hand sanitisers are located across the gym area, and we’re asking all members to help keep our gym safe by sanitising equipment before and after use.  Members should not share equipment.

At this point, we are asking members to bring their own towels in the gym, but water fountains should only be used to fill bottles. Members should not drink directly from water fountains.

Is all the usual gym equipment available?

We’ve worked hard to make our gym equipment available to use, however, to ensure there is adequate spacing between each piece of equipment and in the workout area there may be smaller volumes of equipment available.

Minimal equipment that is difficult to clean between each use has been removed from use until we are safely able to reinstate them.

I am conscious of how I can social distance in the gym, how will I know what to do ?

We want to give you a warm and friendly welcome back and make you feel as comfortable as possible. All spaces will now have additional staff members in the gym. Their focus, as well as welcoming members, is to ensure that members understand our social distancing measures, to manage capacity and to ensure all sanitisation and cleaning tasks are completed.

Are Personal Training sessions available?

Yes, Personal Training sessions will be available with Gary Goldie, and our own staff as much as possible. If you would like more information, please contact Reception.

PTs are required to wear a face covering and maintain a suitable social distance from the member throughout the session.

Are changing rooms open?

Changing rooms and showering facilities will be available downstairs in the WM Mann Building. Where possible, our advice is that members should arrive ready to train.  There will be space to leave your outdoor coats, shoes and personal belongings. The disabled/accessible toilet in the gym corridor will be available on a one out one in basis.  We have taken some lockers out of use to allow for social distancing. Storage Trays will also be available for your belongings

Are bags allowed to be taken into the gym?

No, please don’t take your bags into the gym; our rules have always been that bags are not allowed to be left on the gym floor. It is more important now than ever that this is adhered to. This also applies to any new gym and studio areas that have been created in the Club.

Do I need to wear a mask to the gym?

We are closely following government guidelines, and currently you don’t need to wear a mask when using our gym facilities. You are, of course, welcome to do so if you would be more comfortable wearing one.

Can juniors use the gym?

Junior members age 16+ will be able to use the gym.

Can I train with a friend?

You can train with a friend maintaining social distancing. Spotting will not be permitted at this stage.

 

Pool

Do I have to book a slot to use the pool?

Yes, pre-booking a slot in our pool is necessary. This can be done either online or via the telephone.

Is there a limit on the number of people allowed in the pool at any one time?

We’ve added maximum occupancy limits to the pool to ensure you can swim with the space you need. Initially, this will be limited to 9 members using lane swimming and 4 families at family swim times.

We are asking lane swimmers to swim at 5m intervals to ensure spacing is maintained.

Can I borrow any swimming equipment?

We are unable to loan any equipment such as goggles, swim caps etc during this time to minimise any risk of contamination. These can, though, be bought from Reception.

Can I change before and after my swim?

Yes, you will be assigned a changing cubicle and corresponding shower. The showers will be poolside and in the TRB Suite.

Can I use the showers after my swim?

Yes. These will be socially distanced.

Will towels be available?

As towels pose a significant risk of infection to staff, we are asking members to bring their own towel when swimming.

Will lockers be available?

Poolside lockers will be available for personal belongings.  Some lockers have been taken out of use to create space between them.

How will the Pool and cubicles be kept clean?

Floors, touch points such as handrails and pool rails, cubicles and showers will be cleaned between each booking slot.

Can juniors use the pool during lane swimming sessions?

Juniors aged 16+ will be able to book lane swimming slots.

Are swimming lessons running?

Some individual swimming lessons with Suet, Lynne. Sharon and Euan are available. These lessons must be booked with the teacher prior to the start of the lesson.

If you would like to be added to the waiting list for swimming lessons, please contact Reception.

Swimming coaches are unable to have any direct physical contact with children during the lesson, and coaches are only able to teach from the poolside. This also means coaches are unable to put a child’s swimming hat and goggles on before a lesson, so parents are asked to help their child put their hat and goggles on prior to the class.

We’re not able to allow parents to watch from the poolside – children should be dropped off and collected at the appointed time and place.

We’ve also introduced a 20 minute period between lessons to allow for cleaning of all touchpoints ahead of the following lesson.

Fitness Classes

How are you making fitness classes safe?

We’re carefully managing the capacity of our classes in line with Sports Scotland guidelines, and are asking members to pre-book their space for every class via our online booking system or via the telephone.

We have set up our studios to ensure that all equipment is spaced at least 2.5 metres apart, with social distancing markings in place to help members keep apart.

Where necessary and where possible we’re continuing to use larger parts of our Club, to give members more space during classes.

We are cleaning all equipment and accessories using a fully viricidal disinfectant cleaner, certified to kill enveloped viruses within 60 seconds. We are allowing adequate time for thorough cleaning of the space and equipment between each class.

Do I have to pre-book a place for all classes?

To keep everybody safe and help us manage capacity, members are required to pre-book their space for every class via our online booking system or telephone.

Are changing rooms open?

We are unable to offer changing facilities to class participants at this time.  You will be asked to arrive ready for your class. Toilets will be available for members attending classes, but not for changing.

Where do I store my outdoor jacket and personal belongings?

A combination of lockers and storage trays will be available for your belongings. You’re advised to bring as few valuables as possible.

Are bags allowed to be taken into the studio areas?

No, please don’t take your bags into the studios, or into the gym. Our rules have always been that bags are not allowed in the studios or on the gym floor.

It is more important now than ever that this is adhered to. This also applies to any new studio and gym areas that have been created within your Clubs, on tennis courts for example.

Why is there a reduced class timetable?

We have selected classes that use a minimal amount of equipment to reduce any cross contamination. It ensures we have enough time between each class to carry out our thorough cleaning procedures

The classes selected allow us to make sure members can easily remain in a designated space, and stay a safe social distance from each other, as well as the instructor.

We’ve also updated the class descriptions on our website to make sure members know what to expect when booking and attending classes.

Why did we choose the specific programmes we have to launch our re-opening social distancing Group Exercise timetable?

We have chosen a programme of classes for our members that we believe follow current government guidelines. We have tried to make it as simple as possible for our members to understand the type of classes on offer and the benefits each class provides.

All whilst ensuring members remain in an individually designated space so that everyone can keep their social distance from other participants, as well as the instructor.

Are there any changes to Yoga and Pilates classes?

Our yoga and Pilates classes, like all our classes, are running at reduced capacity to allow for social distancing.

The Exercise studios have clear floor markings to help members to find adequate space, safely distanced from others. Members attending classes are required to bring their own mats to exercise classes. Mats are also available to purchase from Reception. We’re also asking members not to bring towels into the Exercise studio.

Spin Studio

How are Group Cycling classes affected?

At the present time, the spin studio will only be available for use by members of one household.  There are also spin bikes located in the Sports Hall. These are positioned a minimum of 2m apart.

We are setting aside a minimum of 30 minutes between use to allow for thorough cleaning of all equipment and touchpoints.

Boxing Studio/Conditioning Room

How will this work?

At the present time, the training studio will only be available for use by members of one household and will be bookable via Reception.

Will changing rooms and showers be available after using the spin and/or training studio?

At the present time, you will be asked to arrive ready to train.

Will there be space to store my personal belongings safely?

Sports Hall

Badminton and Short Tennis

These courts are now available to book. Social distancing must be observed.

How do I book a court?

As usual, all court bookings should be made by phoning Reception. We are not able to allow members to simply turn up and play. Please note, the court is bookable all week with the exception of the following times:

Tuesday 2.15pm – 3pm

Tuesday 6pm -7pm

Thursday 2.15pm -3pm

Saturday 10am -11am

Who can use tennis and badminton courts?

Currently, courts are available for members aged 16 and above.  At the present time, members from different households can only use the court for singles play. Doubles play is only permitted when members of the same household are on the same team.

Junior use of courts is only permitted when they are accompanied by an adult.

All members who book must play; spectators are not able to stand courtside.

How long can I book a court for?

Bookings for singles sessions can be made for 60 minutes.

Why are sessions reduced?

We have introduced a 30-minute turnaround window to ensure the safety of those entering and exiting the court by providing adequate time for social distancing to be maintained. Please be mindful of this when starting and finishing your playing time.

Who can I play tennis with?

We are able to allow up to 2 members to play on each court. Each member may be from a different household.

Doubles play is permitted if the members in each team are from the same household.

Am I allowed to swap ends or shake hands?

We are encouraging all players to avoid changing ends, or if necessary to change ends by moving to the other end of the court via opposite ends of the net. Please don’t shake hands or have any physical contact with other players, and maintain social distancing at all times.

Am I allowed to borrow equipment?

Sorry but we are not able to loan any equipment such as balls and racquets until further notice. You are able to purchase new balls from Reception. Where possible, please play with balls that you have marked. We are also asking members not to bring towels onto courts.

Juniors

We will introduce Junior classes, swim sessions and activities as much as possible in the coming weeks

Where will classes take place?

We anticipate these will take place in the Pool and Sports Hall

How will you keep junior members apart?

When taking part in a class, each child will be shown to their own spot, clearly marked out on the floor and at least 2.5m away from the next spot. They’ll be given their own set of sanitised equipment and our coaches will be on hand throughout to help.

How will equipment be kept clean?

Before each class, all the equipment needed will be cleaned. Each box of equipment will only be used by one child during the class.

We will allow at least 15 minutes between each class so that our team can thoroughly clean the equipment ahead of the next session.

Do I have to pre-book junior classes?

To keep everybody safe and help us manage capacity all members must pre-book their child’s space for every class via our online booking system or via the telephone.

Can children and young people come to the Baths on their own?

For now we are happy to welcome unaccompanied junior members age 16+. Social distancing must be maintained.

Bar & Bistro

You will be able to enjoy lots of your favourite dishes from our main menu, including our popular selection of sandwiches, pizzas and burgers.

There will also be a range of grab-and-go items such as individually wrapped cakes, and soups, as well as a selection of hot and cold drinks.

Do I have to book a table?

 Yes, capacity is limited to allow for social distancing and you will be asked to pre-book a table.  You can do this by calling the bar directly on 0141 334 7783 with a maximum stay of 2 hours.

 Can I order or sit at the bar?

At the present time, table service only will be in operation

How will you ensure that the space is kept clean?

We have set up the Bar and Bistro to ensure that all tables are spaced at least 1 metre apart, with social distancing markings in place to help members keep apart. We would ask you not to visit other tables or move any furniture.

We are cleaning all tables and seating using a fully viricidal disinfectant cleaner, certified to kill enveloped viruses within 60 seconds. We are allowing adequate time (15minutes) for thorough cleaning of the space between each booking.

Do I have to wear a mask?

You are asked to wear a mask when moving around the Bar & Bistro, including use of the toilets.  You may remove your face covering when sitting at your table.

Can I pay by with cash?

Card payments as much as possible are preferable, please.

Hairdresser, Beautician & Masseur

 Do I have to pre-book?

 Yes, capacity is limited to allow for social distancing and you will be asked to pre-book a treatment.  You can do this directly via Nikki, Marcelline or Clark as usual but they will have to let us know to expect you.

Nikki will be providing hairdressing in the mezzanine level of the Sauna Suite.  This space has been refurbished during the lockdown to provide a more pleasant space for members.

Marcelline’s Beauty Room will be moved to the downstairs changing room in the Sauna Suite to allow for increased space and ventilation.

Clark has returned to his original treatment room.

 How will you ensure that the spaces are kept clean?

 We have set up the treatment rooms to ensure they are safe and clean.

The treatment rooms and equipment will be cleaned using a fully viricidal disinfectant cleaner, certified to kill enveloped viruses within 60 seconds. We are allowing adequate time (15minutes) for thorough cleaning of the spaces between each booking.

Where do I wait?

Nikki and Marcelline’s customers will be able to wait in the seating area of the Sauna Suite.  Outdoor clothing can be left in the shoe changing area, which has also been refurbished.

These areas will be cleaned between bookings.

Clark’s customers are asked to arrive in time for their appointment.
