Kelvin Divers

Kelvin Divers is a branch of ScotSAC (the Scottish Sub Aqua Club) which is based at the Western Baths. The club welcomes anyone (18+) who wants to scuba dive, whether they are already qualified or have never dived before. Even if you have trained under an organisation outwith ScotSAC (eg. Padi or BSAC), you can still join us and we will give you the equivalent ScotSAC diver grade and provide any necessary crossover training.

The club is run by members and all training is carried out by those who are qualified instructors and divers. We meet at the Western Baths on Wednesday nights between 8.30 and 10 pm for pool training, and usually pop down to the bar afterwards for a quick drink to plan future dives and social activities (pub quizzes, comedy, etc.).

Dives are usually on Sundays and we visit Loch Long, Loch Fyne, the Clyde, the Sound of Mull and St. Abbs (East Coast). In the past, we’ve organised dive weekends to Skye, Loch Sunart, the Garvellachs, Lochaline and even a week in Majorca.

If you are new to diving, you will need some training before diving in open water. The programme involves pool training, lectures, reading and when pool activities are complete, open water training. The length of time it takes to qualify depends on how often you attend and on how you get on with the pool skills.

The club has its own equipment for trainees to use in the pool (tanks, BCDs, regulators and some dry suits). This means you don’t have to buy all the gear before you know whether you are going to like the sport. We do recommend for your own comfort that you buy a mask and snorkel, but the club has spares that trainees can use if needed.
