November Wine Tasting
This session is called the ‘Southern Italian Selection’
‘With the Northern half of this long peninsular boot-shaped country first settled by early Etruscan tribes from over the Alps, the more Southern Mediterranean parts were colonised by Ancient Greek mariners. Vine varieties brought with them became core sources, both by grape type and by climate, and so wine styles from hotter Southern Italy tend to be quite different to those made in the cooler, Northern and Central areas of the country. Made from a host of traditional varieties, yet much in vogue having been given a modern tech treatment, this session offers 8 really authentic Southern wines, sourced from 6 different regions.
Beginning with some bubbles in the form of an organic Grillo Spumante from Sicily; 3 dry Whites will follow; a Vermentino from Sardinia, Pecorino from Abruzzo and a 3 grape blend called ‘Triade’ from Campania. Next, 4 cracking Rossos; Aglianico del Vulture from Basilicata, Salice Salentino and Primitivo di Manduria which are both from Puglia, finishing with Nero Oro Appassimento from Sicily again – back where we started!
This session is promising to be interestingly different and fun. With the club busy over the festive period, this session will be our last this year.’
